Yesterday I had a video call with my friend Kim. The way she lives her life serves as an example to us all of what it means to live and tell the new story. She has an affinity for words and writes beautiful poetic stories.
Our conversation turned to writing. Whilst discussing how to write a story we covered the following points:
- Map your thoughts – without too much detail write down the main image/category of your story/idea. This will help you see your thoughts from an overview perspective.
- Write in pencil – this allows you to ‘sketch’ your thoughts into a cohesive image. It is the most organic way to write. The pencil allows you to be freer with your writing.
- Don’t be too rigid – aware of what you wish to write, empty your mind and follow the words which rise up without judgment. Follow them and build your narrative using the stream of consciousness that you find yourself in.
More nuggets to come. Wishing you a blessed week <3
